PPG announced that its three innovative coating technologies have won the 2021 R&D 100 Awards, which were selected by the R&D 100 Awards Committee and R&D World Magazine to recognize the 100 most innovative technologies and services in the past year.
PPG's qualified technologies include its PPG BFP-SE battery fire protection, PPG ENVIROCRON Extreme Protection thermally conductive powder coating and PPG HI-TEMP 1027 HD coating.
PPG BFP-SE battery fireproof coating is an innovative coating that protects batteries in electric vehicles from fire, and helps to reduce thermal runaway events and improve passenger safety. The company said that these solutions can be mass-produced, efficiently applied, and include battery fire protection for various vehicle battery applications.
PPG Envirocron Extreme Protection thermally conductive powder coating combines dielectric protection and thermal conductivity in a single multifunctional coating for electric vehicle battery packs. PPG’s proprietary platform improves cooling efficiency and provides excellent electrical insulation, mitigating arcing and short-circuit events to improve battery performance and passenger safety.
PPG HI-TEMP 1027 HD is the company's next-generation environmentally cured high temperature corrosion under insulation (CUI) coating, specifically designed for new construction projects. It has good hardness and corrosion resistance, even under severe cycling temperatures from -196°C (-320°F) to 540°C (1000°F). The coating's resistance to possible wear and corrosion of pipes, containers and building components helps prevent damage and the resulting repair work, saving time and money.
